#NAEMSE09 Effective Visual Presentations Post Conference

Effective Visual Presentations was a 1 day post-conference session presented at the National Association of EMS Educators Symposium by Greg Friese and Kyle Bates. Twenty-two workshop participants from Florida, Wisconsin, Alaska, California, Nevada, New Jersey and all points in between learned the purposes and uses of case based learning, how to plan a case with the CHEATED method, techniques for photographing a simulated case, and PowerPoint skills to deliver a case online or in the classroom. After the session this is what participant Christopher Andersson, Facilitator/Coordinator of the Central East Prehospital Care Program had to say:

“Greg and Kyle were able to help me take the concept of case based learning to the next level by introducing the concept of visual case studies using simple, accessible equipment and techniques. With their combined expertise and experience in the field of training, EMS provision, graphic design and use of media, the facilitators were uniquely qualified to provide invaluable insights into the topics.

The day was filled with hands on opportunities that really put the ideas to work and ignited the creative spark in the attendees. I walked away with the confidence and skill to create compelling, professional looking case studies, a skill that I intend to build on by practice.”

Educators worked in 4 person groups to complete a series of activities that culminated with each group’s case being critiqued by Greg and Kyle. Every participant received actionable feedback to improve their building and delivery of effective visual presentations. During the workshop Greg and Kyle photographed the small groups in action (see slideshow).

As you can see from the images the workshop participants used tools familiar to them – point and shoot digital camera, laptop computer, PowerPoint (or Keynote), and a digital projector. If you are seeking a hands-on half or full day conference session for Emergency Responder educators contact Greg Friese to discuss curriculum and availability.
