Free Tools for ELearning Production
The Rapid ELearning blog by Tom Kuhlman week in and week out is the best blog I read. If you are at all interested in elearning design, production, and delivery you should subscribe immediately.
Last week Tom told readers about 9 Free Tools for Elearning design. He described how he uses these tools for building elearning programs:
- Pixie
- Color Schemer
- Paint.net
- Photo Resizer
- Audacity
- Moviemaker
- Format Factory
- SWF Player
- FLV Player
I frequently use Audacity and Moviemaker.
Audacity is an open source audio editing and recording program. It has all the features I need to record, edit, and proof audio files that are integrated with PowerPoint slides to produce Flash movies using Articulate Presenter. The EMSEduCast – a podcast by and for EMS Educators is using Audacity to record and edit each week’s episode.
Moviemaker is a free Windows accessory for editing movie files. Most of the EPS Product Review videos are edited with Moviemaker. The feautures I use the most are:
- add credits/text before, after, or on-top of video
- split a clip for cropping, changing order of clips, or inserting credits between clips
- cropping video clips to remove multiple takes, bloopers, and extra content
How do you use the tools on Tom’s list? What other software tools are you using to design and product elearning? Tell us in the comments.
