EMS Social Networking

Are you part of an EMS social networking site? Are you part of EMSConnect, JEMS Connect, or EMS United. Do you twitter, tweet, or update your status?

Everyone else is doing it.

Well not exactly. Social networking is still new to emergency responders. I routinely read that there are about 900,000 EMTs and Paramedics in the United States. As of mid-April EMSConnect posted a membership just over 3600. I am not sure about current membership of JEMS Connect or EMS United. The membership numbers include members from around the globe. I have friended EMTs in Poland, Brazil, and Canada. So the percentage of current paramedics participating in social networks is very low.

Like many things it is not the quantity of members in the group, but the quality of the interaction. I have had some great interactions. This is what I do to make the most of social networking sites:

  1. Post information about my EMS work and interests
  2. Start groups and invite participation
  3. Join and participate in existing groups
  4. Share resources, ideas, videos, and images

Why do use EMS social networking? Want to get started, join EMSConnect and add me as a friend.
