National Day of Service

Today was Martin Luther King Day. There were many reports and stories about Americans, from all walks of life, dedicating part of their day to community service. All of their efforts are welcome and appreciated.

If you are ready for more than a day of service consider becoming a volunteer emergency responder by:

  • Completing Community Emergency Response Team training
  • Volunteering with the American Red Cross disaster services corps
  • Receiving training as a medical first responder, EMT-Basic, or Firefighter
  • Joining your local volunteer first responder and/or fire department

I have read that more than 80% of our country is served by volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Tremendous satisfaction comes from helping a neighhor at their time of greatest need.
