Posting Videos on YouTube
Emergency Preparedness Systems incorporates videos into e-learning lessons and directs students to online videos on specific skill topics or lectures. When viewing a video as part of a lesson is required we embed the video directly into the lesson using Articulate Presenter or Engage. When a video is optional content, available for additional learning or information, we use a hyperlink within the lesson to direct the student to a video available at YouTube. Make sure to have the video open in a new window.
YouTube recently began to allow uploading of videos up to 1GB, but their is still a 10 minute time limit to the video length. In my opinion a video should be short, less than 5 minutes, and relevant to the topic. Part of the challenge is to get the student to come back to original lesson after viewing the video. You might do this by asking them questions about what they viewed or ensuring that they know there is required content to finish after viewing the video.
Finally, make sure you understand copyright regulations when you post content to YouTube or when you use a screen capture tool to record a YouTube video.
