Post Exposure Interventions for Persons Wounded During Bombings or MCIs
The Centers for Disease Control has released Recommendations for Postexposure Interventions to Prevent Infection with Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Tetanus in Persons Wounded During Bombings and Other Mass-Casualty Events — United States, 2008.
The CDC has also previously released information and training materials on Explosions and Blast Injuries.
Explosions, bombings, and MCIs are low frequency events with potentially high consequence. Every year or every other year training may be appropriate for emergency responders. Online education programs, created with a rapid e-learning process, are well suited for this information. For example, an outline for a lesson on explosions and blast injuries would include these headings:
- Incident types and definitions
- Emergency Responder Safety and Evidence Protection
- Mechanisms of Blast Injuries
- General principles for on-scene triage, treatment, and transport prioritization
