E-Learning Cost Benefits
Leading up to the July 4th holiday Gabe Anderson of Articulate wrote a blog post about the benefits of e-learning to the environment. (View Gabe’s post).
In the emergency response industries - EMS, fire, law enforcement, telecommunications - shift work forces many training programs to off-duty days/hours to prevent training programs from being interrupted by emergency calls. Of course this causes over-time and the associated costs and affects on employee moral. A great training program is only as great as the attendees enthusiasm to be at work on a scheduled day-off. Or the training program could start 30 minutes after the end of hectic 24 hour shift.
Due to scheduling difficulties e-learning programs have many potential cost benefits for emergency responder organizations:
- a 15-30 minute module can be accessed during on-duty time
- if a call comes in the module can be paused and resumed when the call is over
- all responders at every station on every shift receive an identical training program
- responders don’t need to leave their station or service area for training at another station
- subject matter experts don’t need to deliver the same program to multiple stations for each shift
What are some other benefits of e-learning for emergency responder organizations?
