Wildland Firefighting
Wildland firefighting is been a hot news item in the last few weeks. In a recent NPR Talk of the Nation interview the basics of Wildland Firefighting and the Incident Command System are discussed in a captivating and informative conversation.
In more and more places homes are encroaching on nearby wildlands. Emergency responders of all types, not just firefighters, are being deployed in tasks including resident evacuation, property protection, firefighter rehabilitation. I would organize a rapid e-learning lesson / just in time training for non-firefighters using these objectives:
- To understand the primary goals of wildland firefighting (life safety, property protection, resource protection)
- To describe the risks and hazards to non-firefighters assisting / supporting wildland fire incidents
- To introduce the roles played by non-firefighters at wildland fire incidents
EPS is providing graphic and interaction design for the firefighter CE lessons produced by JSL Communications. We are currently putting the finishing touches on an introduction to Wildland Firefighting lesson for CentreLearn users.
