Production Process - Writing the Audio Narration
The first step in our production process is writing the narrative. The subject matter expert (SME) submits and idea for a lesson or is assigned a lesson by the editor. These are the steps we then follow for each lesson.
1) One page outline for the lesson that includes 3-5 objectives. Most EMS education topics are easily organized as follows:
introduce the problem - definition, effect, consequences
explore relative anatomy and physiology
explain signs and symptoms of the problem
review assessment guidelines for the problem
discuss treatment procedures for the problem
2) after review and approval of the outline the SME writes a word for word narration for the lesson in PowerPoint notes view. Each slide is to cover one important point or thought. Our lessons are 25-30 minutes long so each slide might last 10-45 seconds - so about 75 slides per lesson
3) the SME submits the lesson for review and editing. Most often new SMEs write too much content overall and too much content per slide
4) the PowerPoint file is used as a storyboard for slide development, graphic design, and planning for insertion of Articulate Engage Interactions. Thus, the narration needs to include instructions for the user that might be specific on how to utilize interactive content.
