Pain is the leading emergency medicine complaint. Patients expect EMS to acknowledge their pain, assess it and treat it. EMS, like all areas of healthcare, is not meeting this basic patient expectation.  This RapidCE lesson will discuss why the first step in improving assessment and treatment of pain is to understand pain transmission, perception, and assessment.
